As the countdown for the next presidential election draws close, politicians, political stalwarts and several political jobbers have began to project their candidates for presidency as the ‘man-to-vote-for’. Muyiwa Olowoporoku, Ayodeji Adesina and Jubril Adisa x-ray the intrigues and intricacies of the top contenders and pretenders in this report.

The month of October has been, for Nigerians and the world at large, a month of note.

Exactly 50 years ago, The Union Jack was lowered at the famous Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, signaling the end of colonial rule; a new dawn for the people of Nigeria. October 1 is indeed a significant day iin the history of the Nigerian state.

Happy 50th Independence Nigeria!

Just as Nigerians were celebrating the golden jubilee, some enemies of the state decided to mar the day with a-twain bomb explosion that left about 12 people dead and over a score injured. The most unfortunate thing is that this terrible and inhuman act, by whosoever, has become a tool in the hands of politician. Terrorism act we call it; it had since been politicized. What a shame. Nigerians are, however, awaiting the findings of the security operatives; it is hoped that the investigation will not be terminated midway just as we witnessed during the Edo and Port Harcourt bomb explosions as well as the gruesome murder of former attorney General, Late Chief Bola Ige amongst other notable assassination cases that were swept under the carpet.

In this same month, the world is rejoicing with the Chile, especially the 33 Chilean miner who were rescued after spending 69 days below the ground. Even with the rewards and goodies that followed, no one will envy them. Theirs is indeed a miracle.

The Independent National Electoral Commission is, as it has always been, in the news again. It i\is settled that elections will not hold in January any longer, it is equally certain that there will be polls in April either. That is the fear being expressed by the INEC helmsman, Professor Attahiru Jega. The Electoral Act 2010 is back before the National Assembly for amendment; Nigerians are waiting for the speedy review.

It appears the dams in Nigeria can no longer hold waters. Residents in some part of Ikorodu and adjoining communities in Ogun state are counting their losses now. Even with that, there are still indications that the matter might get worse as more waters will still be released from the Oyan dam.

There seem to be more searchlight on Nigeria than ever.
